we decided not to use walk-in music and made a soundtrack which sounded like a machine, the music reminiscent to early 80’s new wave without using the actual tracks from those days. we furthermore made sure the sound was cold and hollow, like being all alone in an abandoned submarine 3000 feet below sea-level. during the making-of we decided less is always more, so we deleted most sound effects and only left the sound of a sonar, heavy metal guitars and the swoosh of metal plates. the basic tracks for this show were toddla t.’s whatch me dance (feat. roots manuva) in a remix by the legendary andrew weatherall and kraftwerk’s metal on metal. the intro was wooden shjips’ space clothes. needless to say we cut the tracks to pieces and made a new arrangement. the show got rave reviews and we loved being part of this season’s van benthum’s team.
