to keep the spirits up in times of lousy weather we have decided to post a mix which was never used. it’s a gift to all attending, showing and working at amsterdam fashion week, we hope everybody will be singing along this week. the lyrics are easy, most probably every one of you knows the words.
singing in the rain was originally made for a show in milano where the audience was supposed to stand on a patio while heavy rain poured over them. all would get an umbrella, specially designed for the occasion. male top models had to form a semi-fake choir and lip-sync the whole show. a great idea, but also a little far fetched, so at the end the show never happened.
of course we were terribly disappointed, we had listened to over 1500 versions of singing in the rain, picked out the best ones sung by boys and men and found a way to glue it all together. the mix is a big fun mish mash of boy choirs, charleston, classical tenors, close harmony, crooners, disco, evergreens, euro-house, hammond organ stupidity, karaoke kitsch, pop, r&b, rock, soul, tap dancing, anything which seemed fun to use. the mix ends with the wonderful gene kelly, taken from the sound score of the original musical.
as you maybe can imagine, we worked day and night for more than a week on this epic ‘masterpiece’, we cried when we heard it was all for nothing. now, after a few years things look different: we are happy to post it and will hopefully see you dancing and singing…. in the rain.
